However, Númenórean rule continued in Middle-earth through the exiled Dúnedain, now living in the Realms in Exile, Arnor and Gondor, established by Elendil the Tall, who was the senior surviving descendant of Elros through Silmariën, the daughter of King Tar-Elendil. 'Home' is epic in its scope, and a harbinger of excellence to come. The album's themes of the loss of innocence, and a longing which can only be fulfilled by the cessation of life, are as sombre and austere as the music itself. The Quenya names continued to be used in the Scroll of the Kings out of fear of breaking with tradition.Īfter Ar-Pharazôn, who perished in the Downfall of Númenor and was imprisoned in the Caves of the Forgotten, the title was abandoned and the direct line of Kings was broken. 'Home' is both haunting and transcendent, with gossamer melodies that shine through a deluge of post-metal grandeur. Initially the Kings and Queens took their names in Quenya, however as the Númenóreans turned against the Valar and use of the Elven tongues, the kings took their names in Adûnaic, beginning officially with Ar-Adûnakhôr, the twentieth king. However in later centuries, beginning with Tar-Atanamir, the Sceptre was held until death. The symbol of the Kings of Númenor was the Sceptre, which in the early centuries of the Second Age was passed on by the rulers to their heirs when they abdicated and went into retirement. The royal line began with Elros Tar-Minyatur, the brother of Elrond, who founded the House of Elros, and ended with Ar-Pharazôn (Tar-Calion) and Ar-Zimraphel ( Tar-Míriel).
